A key focus area in the New Tech Network Model is college and career ready outcomes that prepare each student for postsecondary success with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets to be ready for college and career. The NTN Student Learning Outcomes are a set of research-based outcomes aimed at preparing students for postsecondary college and career success. For each outcome, a rubric or set of rubrics has been developed to help ensure that students are being provided with regular feedback on their growth and needs in each of these areas.
These rubrics strive to use an asset-based approach. When possible it starts with what students can do and then moves to what they need to improve. Remember to give students opportunities to self-assess and advocate for their rubric placement. This reflection is key to moving students towards mastery. Classroom Environment and Mindset NTN recommends using surveys or other tools to ask students to reflect on the classroom environment and whether it promotes the mindsets that support agency. We encourage facilitators to focus on smaller parts of the survey at time, rather than giving the entire survey at once. |

Where can I find a rubric for Knowledge and Thinking for 5th grade or for elementary?
Hi Rose,
The Knowledge and Thinking Rubrics that exist at the secondary level, are disciplinary literacy rubrics that encompass the reading and writing skills particular to a discipline. For example, the rubrics help assess students who are writing like a scientist or historian or doing literary analysis. We normally don't start focusing on disciplinary literacy skills in Elementary grade levels.
Hope that helps!
I wonder how we can have examples of rubrics for students to be use for self evaluation when they write
Hi Noemi!
What grade level do you teach? The Elementary rubrics have a student facing rubric for students to use for self evaluation. The Secondary Rubrics (MS/HS) can be used for self evaluation and we encourage that you do! The Secondary students may need scaffolding to understand the language so helping them to get comfortable with the rubrics through rubric workshops is helpful. Some teachers even include a blank row below each row of their rubrics and work with students to find student friendly language to help them understand what the rubrics are measuring. But we encourage all teachers to use the rubrics with students so that they can self evaluate their skill level. Using the Bookend Lesson Card in the NTN Assessment Practices Card Deck can help students learn portions of the rubrics, set goals and reflect on their progress all in one class period. You could start there!
Where can I find the Audience Member Rubric?
Hi Christine!
Generally speaking you can give the audience member selected parts of the Oral Communication rubric for reference and feedback to the student presenters.
Hello,
Any chance there is already a CSV version of rubrics to upload into Canvas/Instructure as Outcomes?
Hi Melissa! No, we do not but that is a good suggestion as it could to be used in multiple platforms. Historically, most teachers used our platform, Echo so we haven't had this request before. I'll see what we can do for the future for our Canvas and other platform users. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Thanks, Kelley! I did some copying/pasting and trial/error to come up with this as a starting off point. They look decent, but I'm sure your team can make them better later :)

ok great! I'll take a look at this and see what I can do! Are the headers you used in your example the headers that the canvas needs for its grade book?
