A collaboration stamp sheet is a tool to both teach students what collaboration looks and sounds like and to provide in-the-moment feedback about student collaboration.
As teachers launching a group-worthy, we typically share with students what they’ll be working on and why it’s important, but we often forget to explain how we’d like students to work together.
With this tool, you name specific collaboration indicators you hope to see, and share with students that you’ll be providing feedback by initialing or stamping the numbers on the stamp sheet. (It is recommended that this is a group grade as much as possible, so that students have more motivation support, include, and find value in each other.) Once group work as commenced, the teacher role then shifts to managing and providing feedback around collaboration, knowing that good collaboration allows students to build content knowledge together.
The role of the teacher now is to circulate looking and listening for moments of collaboration to briefly compliment as you initial/stamp the sheet.
Example: Everyone Working in the Middle might sound like "I'm noticing that you're all leaning in so that everyone can see and hear each other. That's so important for good collaboration. <Initials stamp sheet and moves on>
Everyone Sharing Ideas might sound like "I've heard all four voices in this group! It's so important to be able to hear from and use the strengths of everyone in the group. <initials stamp sheet and moves on>"
